Color of Change, biggest on-line civil rights organization is ’sed by the country, is in the midst of a national effort to pressure corporate ties to be cut off by the Congressional Black Caucus Political Action Committee with a lobbyist for the private prison business.
There are about 130 private prison firms and they’ve combined annual sales of $3.3 billion.
U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) Before he dropped out the race, is related to GEO Group, in accordance with The Washington Post who was seeking the Republican Party’s nomination for president.
The CBC PAC said in a statement that it works to raise the amount of African Americans in the U.S. Congress, support non- Black nominees that champion our interests, and encourage African American involvement in the political process.
Color of Change maintains the lobbyists, some of whom are CBC PAC board members, aren’t working in the best interests of the Black community.
“Maybe the most affecting corporate funders of the CBC PAC are the lobbyists in the private prison business.
Its present and former workers are a who’s who of cabinet officials, governors, the former Congressman and presidential advisers. Vernon Jordan, former adviser to former head of the National Urban League and President Bill Clinton, is among the business’s top officials. The company employs 900 attorneys.
Color of Change included: “Private penitentiary firms are responsible for some of the worst abuses of human rights, targeting communities of black in America….” Over the previous 25 years, GEO Group, the two biggest private prison operators and CCA, have given $10 million to candidates and spent $25 million lobbying for laws that place more folks in prison.”
